The stone the city is built from. The word for neighbour, in the same language.
The Story: Built Like Amman
Our name is Jear. It comes from Jeari — the pale limestone that has shaped Amman for generations. It's the stone that built the city's old homes, carved its streets, and gave Amman its unmistakable glow. Look across the hills, and you'll see it everywhere. The city isn't just surrounded by Jeari; it's built from it. So are its stories.
From our windows, the Citadel rises above the city, standing on the same hills where civilisations have come and gone for thousands of years. Below, Amman stretches in every direction — a city that has never stopped growing, never stopped welcoming, and never stopped gathering people around the table.
That's the Amman we wanted to celebrate. Not one culture. Not one recipe. But the city itself. A place where Bedouin traditions meet Circassian and Chechen hospitality. Where Armenian kitchens, Kurdish family recipes, and the flavours brought by neighbours from Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, and Sudan have all become part of the same story. Different histories, shared tables.
Our food is a reflection of that. We don't chase trends or reinvent heritage. We take recipes that have been loved for generations and prepare them with the same respect they've always deserved — letting them feel at home in today's Amman. Because this city has always known how to honour its past while making room for what's next.
Jear is our tribute to that spirit. Rooted like the limestone beneath our feet. Warm like the homes it built. And open to everyone who walks through the door.
Welcome to Jear.
Five Rooms, One Kitchen
Jear isn't one dining room. It's five, each with its own weather, and its own reason to pick it.
Panorama — Fully outdoors, facing the Citadel and downtown Amman straight on. Through Amman's hot summers it's best around sunset and into the evening; the rest of the year it's open through the day too, with umbrellas against the sun and heaters against the chill. On the coldest winter nights it closes until morning — Panorama is a fair-weather room, and Amman hands it most of the year.
The View — Glass on four sides, all of it retractable, with a ceiling that opens too. It runs year-round: enclosed and warmed in winter, thrown open the moment summer arrives. Same Citadel, same downtown, whatever the weather's doing.
The Lounge — Indoors, semi-private, floor-to-ceiling glass on two sides toward the Citadel, a fireplace for the months that need one, and a corner of tables set up for kids to draw and play while the rest of the table finishes eating.
The Main — Fully indoors, with glimpses of the Citadel through the windows. The steady, everyday dining room, open through lunch and dinner regardless of season, while Panorama, The View, and The Lounge take on the evenings the weather allows.
The Café — Two long communal tables, a couch, a run of benches, and enough power outlets that nobody has to fight over one. The same view as the Lounge, meant for the hours between meals — working, studying, or just staying somewhere with a good window for longer than a coffee usually buys you.
Come for one room or move through all five over a season. Jear was built to be visited more than once.
